About SpringFestNY
SpringFestNY (SFNY) is a fully featured anime convention that was founded in 2004 by the Poly Anime Society (PAS), a student club at what was then Polytechnic University. Since then SFNY has grown from a small event into a major local convention that plays host to anime industry guests, Japanese musical acts, artists, vendors, workshops, and gaming tournaments. SFNY is Brooklyn’s longest-running anime convention.
SFNY was originally started as a one-day convention with free admission. It quickly became the largest free anime convention in the New York Tri-State area. In 2013, SFNY began charging for admission in order to introduce industry guests and the Starlight Garden Cafe, SFNY’s wholly-owned maid cafe.
Up until this point, SpringFestNY has been hosted every March at the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering in downtown Brooklyn. However in 2015, SpringFestNY was cancelled for the first time ever due to difficulties in allocating the appropriate space. This event disrupted a decade of tradition and left both our attendees and organizers disappointed. In order to prevent a similar event from occurring again, a coalition of previous organizers and fellow anime fans decided to take fate in to their own hands.
